Arts and Crafts in Cyprus

Cyprus is such a wonderful place for artists at any time of year. The stunning views, variety of flora and fauna, tradition crafts and the marvellously relaxed way of life cannot fail to inspire any artist, whatever their chosen medium. Bring your paints, camera, or just a sketch book and pencil. Enjoy!

Riverside will be happy to accommodate and provide help or special requirements for those interested in this type of holiday, whether you come alone or in a group. We will be offering painting and craft holidays for those who would like tuition. Courses will be organised and run by practising artists who are also qualified and teach in the U.K.

In April we will be offering a watercolour holiday with Linda Travers Smith, for water colourists. Whether you are relatively new to this medium or more advanced you find this course has a lot to offer. Later in the year we will be offering holidays in acrylics, photography and patchwork.

Linda Travers Smith

Art Mediums used: Watercolour, Collage, Gouache and Acrylic

I began painting as a hobby in the United States in 1976, starting first with Decorative Painting. Later I moved on to watercolour and I was fortunate to benefit from tuition by Trever Bennett, a well-known Californian water colourist of the day. On return to the UK in 1980, I continued untutored. My husband’s work then took the family to Germany for six years, where for the first time I exhibited in two successful one- man shows. In 1990 the family went to Washington DC, which became home for five years. I began to concentrate seriously on my art studies, under the guidance of one of Washington’s new and most exciting artists. His use of colour and subject matter was a great inspiration to me. Since our return to England in 1996, I have exhibited with The Royal Institute of Watercolours, The Wildlife Art Society and Bucks Art Society. I am a member of both the Society of Women Artists and The Armed Forces Art Society exhibiting at the Mall Galleries. I have also been selected and sold at the Laing Exhibition and at the national “Paint a Wildlife Subject” was awarded Best Watercolour and Best in Show. I paint regularly with the West Wycombe Art Group. During term time I teach watercolour classes throughout Buckinghamshire with Adult Education, and have workshops at Chalfont St Peter Community Centre. I am a member of the Visual Images Group, taking part in the Bucks Visual Arts Open Studios each year.
